Every outing reveals a new angle on Koli — through nature, history, local culture and quiet moments in the forest. Even cycling becomes more than riding: it’s a chance to experience the woods, local life and the spirit of this unique place.
On a wool sock walk, you’ll experience the winter forest through all your senses. Moving in soft wool socks makes each step gentle and quiet, and opens the mind to the surrounding nature. You can feel the surface of the snow beneath your feet — almost like walking barefoot, yet warm and comfortable.
Although this walk can be enjoyed during the day, it is at its most enchanting around sunset and into the blue hour. Soft lanterns accompany us, giving just enough light to guide the way while leaving space for silence, darkness and mystery.
I offer guided e-bike tours to two of Koli’s classic viewpoints: the Räsävaara observation tower and the famous Pirunkirkko cave. E-bikes can be rented from the Koli village.
Räsävaara is a shorter and easier ride, suitable for all seasons. From the top of the observation tower, you’ll see wide, open views over Koli’s forests, rolling hills and Lake Pielinen.
Pirunkirkko is a longer summer-season tour — a beautiful day’s ride to Koli’s best-known cave. The route passes old meadows, traditional slash-and-burn landscapes, ancient forests and the shores of Lake Pielinen before reaching the dramatic rock shelter.
Unleash your imagination in the snowy landscapes of Koli! In this guided snow-sculpting moment, we begin with ready-made blocks of packed snow and shape them into animals, forest spirits or imaginative winter creatures using safe, easy tools.
We draw inspiration from Koli’s nature, ancients spirits and old stories. Working slowly in the quiet winter forest creates a playful atmosphere where creativity comes naturally.
In the end, we admire the finished snow figures together and capture a few photos before leaving them to watch over the winter woods.
