Snow sculpting

Meet the forest folk of Koli

According to old Finnish folklore, Koli is home not only to sages and sorcerers, but to a whole crowd of forest folk: trolls lurking among the rocks, little tonttu elves, mischievous menninkäinen sprites and the shy maahinen, earth spirits said to live beneath the ground. What might they look like if they stepped out of the forest? Or perhaps you’ll create a creature no one has ever seen before.

Ready-made snow blocks are waiting, so you can start sculpting right after a short introduction. A range of sculpting tools and small moulds for extra details are provided.

The joy of creating together

In the quiet winter landscape, ideas come naturally: one person finds the shape, another carves the details and a third gives the creature its name. At the end, we admire the finished sculptures together and take a few photos to remember them by.

The sculptures stay behind as part of the winter landscape.

Snow sculpting suits all ages and works well as a group activity when you’re looking for something light, creative and outdoors.
